EdGate Services

Get Categorized and Organized, Get Taxonomies!

EdGate recently presented at an educational technology event which addressed the need for educators to have fast and easy access to resources right at their fingertips.

The focus was on developing subject-specific taxonomies that are used for the primary purpose of categorizing content, making the search for resources not only effective but more efficient. Using a taxonomical list of terms or concepts, teachers can quickly and easily find content specific to their grade and subject without the delay or hassle of sorting through resources unrelated to their need.

EdGate's New and Improved API!

EdGate is excited to announce the launch of our new and improved API!

In an effort to further support the needs of our partners we have developed an API with more functionality and flexibility.

The EdGate Data Service is a REST based API platform that allows clients direct, secure access to the largest and most up to date repository of K-12 national and international educational standards in the world. Using the API gives clients and their developers complete control in creating tools to display standards and correlation data.

Digital Chaptering Services

Digital content is prevalent in today's classrooms at all levels of education from kindergarten to college. Video and audio content can be valuable stand-alone teaching tools or integral resources in lesson plans that utilize multiple information sources. The EdGate team makes technology based resources classroom-ready by segmenting educational material into easily absorbable chunks. EdGate provides written descriptions of each segment and provides relevant search terms for maximum visibility in content searches.

Understanding today's Libraries and MARC Records

Did you know there are more public libraries in the United States than McDonald's? Since the 1960s, libraries across the United States have been using MARC as a way to keep records traditionally shown on a catalog card.  MARC stands for MA-chine Readable Cataloging record. A plethora of information is included in these records, the most basic being name, summary, subject, and call number.

However, every job is different and every customer has specific needs; that's where our Custom Reports come in.

Here are some popular custom report types:

Making a Difference

The wisdom of children is astounding. One of our favorite stories is about the child who sees hundreds of starfish stranded on the beach, and begins taking them one-by-one to the water to save them.  An adult walking the beach says to the child "You can't possibly make a difference...there are far too many starfish to save!"  The child curiously looks at the adult and responds "It will make a difference to this one", and throws it into the sea.  There are many iterations of this story, and the essence is dear to all of us in the educational arena - make a difference!
