Indiana initially adopted the Common Core State Standards, but implementation was stalled and became the first state to opt out of the Standards in 2014. The state published its replacement, the Indiana Academic Standards, in April 2014.

In June 2013 Indiana dropped Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). Currently the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress Plus (ISTEP+) is in use for grades 3-8.
