Curriculum Standards Help

1. Articles and Learning Materials

Access to the ECS Educational Correlation System will allow you to view state curriculum standards and their connection to specific Encyclopedia Articles and Learning Materials.

Selection Options:

  1. Encyclopedia Articles – At the selected Encyclopedia Article page, click below the article title.

  2. Learning Materials – On the Teachers' Resources: General Resources page, select Learning Materials. Choose from any subject and level available. A selection of Britannica study guides, interactive lessons, online activities, printable worksheets, and other exercises will be listed. Choose one, then select .

This will open a new browser window directing you to a map. Choose a state by clicking the map or selecting from the dropdown menu.

The list that appears will include all the grades, subjects, and standards that match your article or Learning Material selection. From here, you can view the correlations. To narrow your listing, you can refine the grade by using the dropdown menu, then click on Go.

Navigation Options:

1. To navigate back to selected article, close out of this window by clicking the upper right corner X.

2. To view another state for this Encyclopedia Article or Learning Material, DO NOT close this window. Click <<Back to select a new state from the provided map.

3. To view other correlations, click Main Search to start a new standards search.

Note: This will direct you away from your original Encyclopedia Article or Learning Material and instead provide you with further connections to other Encyclopedia Articles and Learning Materials linked to your criteria.

If Main Search is chosen, select a grade, subject, and state from the dropdown menus (or a state from the map). You also have the option of placing a Search Term into the search box. If a term is entered, it will be highlighted on the state standards page.

Once you've selected a state, click enter. A listing of standards from your criteria will appear. Listed below some of the standards will be a link that looks like this: materials correlated to this standard ->. Choose a standard to receive a listing of Encyclopedia Articles and Learning Materials that correlate to that standard.

You can proceed by choosing a specific Encyclopedia Article or Learning Material. Your other option is to click <<Return to Search Results. This will take you back to your selected standards listing. Here you can select another standard to receive a listing of correlating Encyclopedia Articles and Learning Materials to that standard.

2. Teacher Resources

Access to the ECS Educational Correlation System will allow you to view state curriculum standards and their connection to specific Learning Materials and Encyclopedia Articles.

On the Teachers' Resources: General Resources page, select . This will open a new browser window directing you to a map.

To access state standards select a grade, subject, and state from either the map or the dropdown menus. You also have the option of entering a Search Term into the search box. If a term is entered, it will be highlighted on the state standards page.

Once you've selected a state, click enter. A listing of standards from your criteria will appear. Listed below some of the standards will be a link that looks like this: materials correlated to this standard ->. Choose a standard to receive a listing of Encyclopedia Articles and Learning Materials that correlate to that standard.

You can proceed by choosing a specific Encyclopedia Articles or Learning Material and continuing the same process as outlined above, starting by selecting . Your other option is to click <<Return to Search Results. This will take you back to your selected standards listing. Here you can select another standard to receive a listing of correlating Encyclopedia Articles and Learning Materials to that standard.

  2. To select a new search criteria DO NOT close this window. Click Standards Search.
